"For The Love of Hats!" by DEV

Welcome to Wednesday's with DEV!

Okay, I know that aint gonna catch on, so let's just focus on my actual topic here. Today, I'm here to talk about HATS.

(Viking hats are STILL hats.)

And so, yeah, this post is about Team Fortress 2 (my current addiction, aside from video game wrestling with ARK.)

This blog entry shall guide you to the totally great world of HATS, and how important they are to the Team Fortress Community.

"Throughout history, men have worn hats as a way of showing how much better they are than other men. “I buy hats,” a behatted man seems to say. “I am better than you!”
Hat magazine.pngIn wartime, hats were a useful way of conferring rank, and ensuring that casualties were confined to the lower classes (hence the famous command of “Don't fire till you see the tops of their heads” at the Battle of Bunker Hill by William Prescott, a general renowned for only shooting enemy combatants who were poor). During peacetime, hats have been instrumental for men to let the non-hatted know just who is wearing the hat around here."

This is the actual description of hats in the TF2 Wiki. I literally just copied it.

HATS are a symbol of honor for TF2 players, because they say they're the only rare items in the game.

Which is true. LOL.

In fact, if you are not a premium player (which means you don't pay real money for the game,) you can't pick up hats randomly. On the other hand, if you happen to be the son of Bill Gates or Kim Kardashian and you have nowhere else to put your money, HATS wouldn't be so rare to you.

Ghostly Gibus.png
And handsome celestial beings like me aren't supposed to be that wealthy.
So that makes my account a "free-to-play" account. And that makes me a free-to-play-er. For poor folks like me HATS ARE SUPER RARE.

Except this hat:

Free-to-play-ers like me can obtain this hat by Dominating another guy wearing it. You dominate someone by killing them three or four times without letting them take revenge. So you kill him over nd over and you get a copy of his hat FOR FREE!

And yeah, I have and proudly wear this hat, to show I'm good enough to dominate someone.

But this hat has a BAD reputation. Since it's that easy to obtain, this hat is considered a Noob Hat.You do not wanna wear a noob hat, I'm telling ya.

So I went to Google, to find myself a way to gain a better hat.

And it showed me how to CRAFT a hat. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I got excited when I found out that HATS were CRAFTABLE.

And so I began my quest to create a good hat. (Anything other than the Ghostly Gibus, to be honest.)

Here are the ingredients for a Crafting a Random Hat:

3 pieces of Refined Metal.
Combine 3 of these, and you get ONE random hat that you can give to one of the 9 Characters!

So yes, you have no control over which character would get the hat, so what do you do if you want to be more specific?
For example, you want a hat for Mr. Pyro, over here. How can you be sure that the random hat will be given to him, instead of the other 8 characters?

Well, you just have to add a few more ingredients to the crafting process.

Instead of just 3, you need 4 pieces of Refined Metal:
And a Class Token for Pyro.
Great! Now we know what we need. Now how do we get these items?

Well, to gain ONE piece of refined metal, you need 3 pieces of Reclaimed Metal:
Umm...okay. How do you get ONE piece of Reclaimed Metal?

Well, you just need to craft 3 pieces of Scrap Metal:

And how the heck do you gain ONE piece of scrap metal?

Well, you just need to craft 2 weapons used by the same character, which is dropped randomly in-game.
Oh, and I've almost forgotten that in order to make ONE Class Token, you need to craft 3 weapons used by the same character. So if you want Pyro to get a hat, you have to give up 3 weapons from him.

AWESOMAZING!

Lemme take out my calculaterrrr...

That's a total of 75 items to be crafted for a random hat for the character you want.
Not to mention that you can end up with a totally crappy hat that looks nothing decent.

In the end, this BETTER BE WORTH IT. The sacrifice is only making my samurai path more honorable.

I'm gonna dot this FOR THE LOVE OF HATS!

...and that was Wednesdays with DEV.

"Something!" by DEV and ARK

DEV: Something's coming folks! And that something is AWEZOME. Well, it's not really anything to get all excited about. It's umm...

ARK: It's a little resolution that Dev and I came up with.

DEV: A pretty stupid resolution if you ask me...but Ark told me to "get psyched about it."

ARK: We're hoping to come up with a better schedule for our blog entries. Maybe if we posted regularly, it would eventually become a habit! It's gonna be fun!

DEV: *sighs* It's a win-win situation for all of us!

ARK: It will be, Dev. It's gonna enhance our writing skills, and improve our discipline...

DEV: And bla, bla, bla.

ARK: So, dear readers, watch out this Wednesday, 'cause Dev and I are gonna be posting an entry! And from that day on, Wednesday night is gonna be blog night! Yey!

DEV: TRY. We're gonna TRY to post every Wednesday. Remember how our plans ALWAYS crash and burn?

ARK: Well, yes. But it's time to make a change.

DEV: What's so special about Wednesday anyway?

ARK: My instincts tell me it's the best day to blog. So we shall follow my instincts!

DEV: Let's see where your instincts take us. LOL.

ARK: See you every Wednesday, guys!

DEV: We love you! (Eww, affection.)

"I Love Rock N' Roll!" by DEV

Hello critters. Dev here.

(Disclaimer: If you did not know yet, this is not me.)

image
With our internet connection restored, I woke up with an amazing urge to blog. So I flew up to my computer, opened up Blogspot, and then just stared at the screen for a solid 5 seconds.

My awezome brain does not take that long to come up with decent, insightful, informative and important blog posts... LOL.

So I just named this entry after the song that got stuck in my head for no reason. I LOVE ROCK N' ROLL. So put another dime in the juke box baby.

(I apologize for the seizure-inducing GIF)

SO ANYWAY.

I know you guys missed me. Or not...

BUT Im'ma still update you on all the stuff that's been goin' on in the life of the awesomazing Dev.

So this is my list of What Happened to Dev While He Was Gone:

1.) Ark and I are about to graduate and I'm all excited.

puppy running around in circles

2.) A few good neighbors started living close to us.

(This is them moving in.)

3.) I finished my internship before I completely became a bat. If you didn't know yet, I worked at a night shift.

4.) I got a great evaluation grade for slacking off. You know, as usual, Ark did ALL the work.

(Inserts irrelevant but funny GIF)

5.) Played more TF2.

6.) Celebrated my birthday! (I'm now 200,000 years old. Still young and fresh.)

Fairly-odd-parents

7.) Kent changed his profile picture. Hmm, not too shabby for a human.

8.) I guzzled more coffeeeee.

9.) Met new friends.

10.) And learned how to do this...

Just kidding. I'm more awezome than them.

"Fading"by ARK

Dev and I have finished nearly every single one of the requirements we need to graduate. We can feel that we are on the last few days of our stay at the College of Communication. Even scarier than that: we're about to finish our studies.

A few months ago I thought the feeling would be glorious. Like accomplishing something impossible.\

But now that we're actually this close to graduating, I feel like I'm...

...fading.

I said goodbye to my internship friends a couple of days ago (the same reason I have not been able to post anything for a long time. I was busy with the internship, and our internet connection was cut. Imagine how devastated Dev's been. He still gets cranky at random intervals due to the lack of an internet connection.)

When I waved my last goodbye to the old building I spent three months in, I was not able to help but feel empty.

That day, I held in my hand a very successful evaluation sheet that proved how hard I worked during my internship. But the happy feeling inside me, had a shadow of loneliness casted on it. It was the goodbye part that hurt. It was the fact that I was leaving a place that I've been so attached to.

Of course I can always pay them a visit. But it would be different. I guess it's not the goodbye that's making me sad. It's the fact that my life is moving forward at an incredibly fast pace. And I'm struggling to hold on.

The fear of the future is becoming ever more real.

Now imagine the emptiness I'd feel when I finally leave the people I've spent four years with. Four years worth of memories and experiences that you'll never recall in detail. It's a sad, sad loss.

I'm fading. Not disappearing. I'm fading into the future. And I don't know what things I'll get to keep with me. I wonder what it would be that would fade with me?
