"Why Not?" by ARK

It is easier to put a period than to keep writing a sentence. It is easier to close the book rather than pay attention to every single word on it. It is always easier to give up.

But why not try? Why not continue what you've begun?
Why not start?

I was thinking of a proper title for this post when a thought came to me: I should entitle it, "Why Not?". When I was trying to think of a reason as to why I shouldn't use it, I just answered "why not?". Why shouldn't I entitle it as such? Nobody is stopping me.
This phrase has in fact been my unofficial motto for quite some time now. When I feel like doing something I want, I ask myself this simple question. And it is surprising how speechless you become when you try to come up with an excuse. So instead of making one, I just jump right onto my plan.

With that simple question in mind, I have already answered the more skeptical "what could possibly go wrong" question. Most of the time, you can get what you want by not restraining yourself from reaching for it.

It is easy to answer the question "Why?". There are plenty of reasons we do things. We are self-motivated creatures. But when we get lazy, all these WHY's are so easy to counter.

...

Conscience: You should start exercising. You need to lose weight.

You: Why?

Conscience: 'cause you're not being healthy anymore.

You: Not healthy? What are you talking about? At least I got food to eat.

...

We counter ourselves and get rid of the answers to our own questions. Either that or we procrastinate. We answer our WHY's with "later" or "not now". So as it turns out, "Why not" is a bit harder to ignore. By using it, we take a much more motivated and optimistic approach.

...

Conscience: You should start exercising. You need to lose weight.

You: Why not?

Conscience: I don't know. It seems like a good idea to me.

You: Let's get started then.

...

Now the tricky part is when your conscience actually has an answer to your "why not" problem. That may mean something, so pay attention. Your decision may involve serious risks. But other than that, go ahead. Everything depends on your self-control and discipline, anyway. But sometimes it is easier to just get things started rather than keep questioning WHY you should be doing it. Do not limit yourself. Stop asking questions. Go ahead and make things happen.
