"The Prayer" by ARK

The best way to start this post is probably with the phrase: "I almost died today."

(but I didn't see any tunnels of light, so I am probably okay.)

My wings were tired 'cause the day was full of school lessons, so I decided to ride a jeep back home. Everything was pretty normal-- the jeep was full and I was growing numb. I was busy daydreaming 'cause that's really all you can do when you can't move your body. Everyone else were either chatting, sleeping, or daydreaming like me.

Pretty much nobody knew we were in for a shocker. Accidents are surprising after all.

This bus  from behind us suddenly started making loud beeping noises. That's the exact same sound a bus makes when it's about to crash into something. I was alerted, and I watched as the bus drove safely away from us. And no, the bus had nothing to do with the accident.

We were all still clueless.

But that short scenario with the bus reminded me to utter "The Prayer." I silently think of this little prayer when I get into the slightest amount of life-threatening danger.

It's something I read back when I was still in Heaven and it goes "Lord, you are my defender and my protector. You are my God. In you I trust."

I pray it when I travel, and it eases my worries that something bad might happen. And it goes with the side effect of adding a small amount of confidence that whatever happens, God has everything planned out and all I have to do is trust.

So there I was, confident that nothing bad would happen for the rest of the ride. In fact, I've already forgotten about the bus. Until this gray car in front of us suddenly slowed down. No warning, no signal, it just dropped its speed. In the middle of a busy highway, you're not supposed to slow down without warning. Every vehicle was speeding, and a slight change in speed will get you crashed.

Seeing the car from only a few meters away, our driver stomped hard on the brakes. Our jeep slowed down a bit too late, and we were only inches from the car. I was only waiting for the crash.

But the driver maneuvered to the right, zooming to the grassy edge of the road. We were safe.

I could only imagine what would have happened if we didn't turn right in time. We could've bumped the car and that would have been a disturbance. From what I saw, the collision wouldn't have been very fatal. It might have killed the two passengers in front, but the rest of us would have been fine. The worst that could've happened is an argument between the two drivers involved.

You know, I was more concerned with the part where we quickly shifted to the right because I know how busy that highway was. When we were only inches from a possible crash, I was thinking that many of us would be safe. But I changed my mind the moment we turned right, uncontrollably settling for the edge of the highway.

We could've been welcomed by yet another surprised vehicle coming from that lane. That would've been a different story. We would've have all been horribly injured if that happened.

But it DID NOT happen. We zipped to the right and miraculously stopped on the edge. For a minute, nothing in the jeep moved. We were all just trying to catch our breath, just trying to sink in what just happened.

I couldn't help but smile.

My prayer was granted as quickly as that. Although it technically doesn't count 'cause I pray it a lot. It was only a matter of time before my fears came true.

But I was also glad how God can remind me of how quickly life can come and go. He is the boss after all. And I guess that's a wake up call, that even though my 2013 is all about me, He should be the one standing in the center. He's the boss. And I promised to honor Him in my blog.

So thank you Lord, I'm still alive. Thanks for always listening to my tiny prayers. Thank you for the heads up. And thank you for everything else. :)

(you! Yes, you up there! You are awesome!)
