"Through the Storm" by ARK

Dev and I are back home! And if you were wondering why neither of us posted anything yesterday, I’m going to narrate to you the events that transpired.

Yesterday Morning:

Dev and I woke up VERY EARLY to prepare for our class. We had a subject at 7:30 in the morning, and so we began packing at 4:00 am. We left home at 5 and started heading to school. It was dark and rainy, and the roads were muddy. That didn’t bother us much, but our wings started to get wet. We saw lightning as thunder cracked. Soon enough, we were out of the watery nightmare and safely inside the classroom. As Dev and I were drying and wiping mud of ourselves, we heard the big bad news: OUR PROFESSOR WOULDN’T BE COMING! Yes, we went through all of that for nothing. Our next class was still in the afternoon, and we had to wait for several hours before we met our next professor.

Yesterday Mid-Morning Not-Yet-Afternoon:

Sitting inside the classroom while watching the rain pour, I tried to sleep. I couldn’t do it because school chairs aren’t exactly as comfortable as beds. I updated my Facebook status through my mobile phone, saying how much of a bore the day would be. Soon enough, Dev cheerfully announced that classes are suspended, and we were free to go home. After all, not even our professor would rush through the storm just to teach her students. She’s no hero.

Yesterday Almost-Afternoon:

The events were quick and we had to pick up the pace as Dev and I headed home. While flying, we decided to stay with our cousins just for the day. Their home was much closer to us at that moment, than our own. And with the terrible rain, it wasn’t wise to venture further. Dev and I soon reached our cousin’s house. We treated that place as a safe haven. There we ate lunch and slept.

Yesterday Afternoon to Yesterday Night:

We spent our time there, sort of helping out with the chores, watching our cousin play with his PS3, eating, sleeping and watching television. We slept at 9 and woke up again the next day.

Today:

We woke up early to prepare for our trip home. It was still raining, but it was much more peaceful now. The streets weren’t flooded anymore, and it was safe to travel. We said goodbye to our cousin and to our other grandma and headed home. Now here I am, typing this article, posting on my blog that has been left cold overnight.

That’s pretty much everything that happened during our absence. It wasn’t actually an absence, since we aren’t taking any attendance on this thing. I just wanted to inform you all that we’re safe and sound…and that we made it through the storm.

"Are you an Angry Bird?" by DEV

ARE YOU AN
?????

Everybody gets angry. What differs is how we deal with anger.

How do YOU deal with anger?

Well, let's say that the Green Pigs represent stressful events that anger us. And let's say, just this once, that we are birds...

Which Angry Bird are you?

1. Red Bird (the "almost useless" bird. LOL.)
-> you deal with problems head-on. You know that you're not a strong person, but you still do your best to face life's stressful events with courage and determination.

2. Blue Bird (the small one that multiplies into three.)
-> you know that you are not a strong person. But you also know where to get your strength: from your friends. They are your stress-relievers. As they say, there is strength in numbers.

3. Yellow Bird (the triangular bird that speeds up.)
-> you face each challenge quickly. You want stress to get away from you as fast as possible. Zoom!

4. White Bird (the egg-laying bird.)
-> you try to avoid conflict by flying away. But in the process, you tend to backstab people you don't like. You drop your egg and fly away, unnoticed.

5. Black Bird (the bomb bird.)
-> when stressed, you feel heavy and depressed. You keep it all inside, until... BOOM! You explode in rage and anger.

6. Green Bird (the boomerang bird.)
-> when stressed, you walk away. As simple as that. But remember, problems will remain unless you get rid of them. Soon, you'll find yourself returning to the scene of the crime.

7. Big Brother Bird (bigger version of Red Bird.)
-> you are strong, and you may or may not know it. You always seem to know how to get rid of stress. That's what we call ATTITUDE.

8. THE MIGHTY EAGLE
-> you know how to get rid of stess: by asking the help of someone above. Someone powerful. Someone who loves us. Yup, you seek the help of God.

How do you deal with stress and anger?

Which Angry Bird are you?

Or... Wait a minute...

Maybe you have your OWN way of dealing with your problems! *ehem*

"Challenges" by ARK

“No, not dangers…challenges!” said a penguin to the other penguin who claimed that the outside world is full of danger.

Dev and I watched Happy Feet Two today…which explains the penguins. It was a good movie, but movie reviews are Dev’s specialty.

Anyway, that line spoken by a very minor character was the one that struck me the most. The penguin was a female, trying to cheer on her child who’s about to venture the world. It was simple, but striking. Dangers and challenges are almost the same thing…it’s just a matter of perspective.

How you view things makes everything different. It gives you a whole new picture. And since the world is full of danger, might as well view them as challenges. I mean, life is all about challenges, right? They come in many forms, both easy and difficult. But the point is you can’t live life without it. That goes without saying that a challenge-less life is a boring, unfulfilled one.

There is no other way around it.

Suppose that you will put yourself to the test and try to live a life without trials, how will you do it? Put yourself in the shoes of an average person and you’ll find yourself facing normal financial crises, employment crises, family crises, etc. There’s no avoiding it. Put yourself in the middle of an open field, doing nothing in particular, and you’ll still face the challenges of nature. You will still have to put up with the weather: the scorching sun and the terrible storms.

Suppose you have a roof over your head. You may be safe from the storms, but looking for food is still a problem. In fact, that’s the problem of most people nowadays.

I guess you’ve seen my point by now. Challenges are everywhere. But it’s what makes us stronger every day. It’s what propels our lives forward. It’s what makes life worth living. So instead of living life fearing its dangers, why not live a life full of courage?
