It’s in the world headlines. The Philippines has been
sabotaged by a monsoon. I hope that would explain why I have not posted in a
while. Dev posted while we were at the hotel last Monday night. But the story
didn’t end there. In fact, it was only just the start of a rags-to riches-to
rags-to riches-to rags sort of story.
Dev and I had been through every sort of blackout during the
past few days. Before even getting to the hotel, I experienced one. And I ought
to narrate all of our experiences.
My FIRST Blackout:
…was just a close encounter. I nearly passed out hours
before our trip to the hotel. Dev and I were simply wasting time, waiting for
our appointment with our interviewee-and we had lots to waste. Hours before our
scheduled interview, Dev had this idea to watch videos on the internet.
Somehow, he had this notion that it would be fun to watch gruesome movies. I
didn’t really like that. You know how horror movies affect me. I wrote it here
before. I’m not the type to get disgusted easily, but movies like Saw (you
know, the torture series) just really unnerve me. I didn’t realize its effect
on me until I nearly fell unconscious, simply because of my hyperactive
imagination.
I was wearing a really tight sweater, and that didn’t help
my condition. It only made me feel hot and dizzy. No longer able to stand the
brutality, I stood up and walked away from Dev’s computer towards the comfort room.
I just wanted to change my clothes, that’s all. But the walk seemed to take
forever. The CR seemed so distant, yet I knew that it was only a few meters
away. I only saw blotches of light, like ink was spilled on my eyes. People
talked to me, but I ignored them for I couldn’t even see where I was going-I
couldn’t stop to chat with anyone, not that instant.
I made it to the comfort room, where I stopped to fully
close my eyes. Honestly, that was the first time it had ever happened to me.
I’ve experienced passing out before, but I knew I simply couldn’t do that on
the wet floor. So I stayed strong and managed to change my clothes. The walk
back to my chair was even longer, for I’ve begun to grow weak. Somehow my
willpower saved me from the imminent humiliation, if I fell right on the spot.
I didn’t wanna worry Dev, or any of my other friends for
that matter. The cause was simple, and I don’t think it was much to fuss about.
I slept on my chair and made the dizziness fade. I vowed that from now on, I
would sleep whenever a movie like Saw ever played closed to me.
My SECOND Blackout:
…isn’t about unconsciousness. Neither this, nor my other
“blackouts” were literal blackouts. They were just dark situations that Dev and
I had to endure.
So after the hotel experience, Dev and I had to fly back
home. But a monsoon had brewed, and it was too dangerous for us to take to the
sky. We were forced to walk on “muddy water” (flood) once again. We found out
through Max (who was at home during these events) that there was no possible
way for us to get home that day. We had to think of someplace else to stay. We
had several options…options that were trashed and blocked by the monsoon and
its loyal minion, the muddy water. We were running out of ideas, and I have had
only 3 hours of sleep prior to that. Dev stayed up all night, overexcited with
our hotel experience, which is why he was very grumpy that day.
So we had to think, think and think. Soon we decided to stay
at our Mom’s office, where we were allowed to stay for the night. Mom’s boss,
Mr. Dunn, was very nice to us and even allowed us to sleep inside a again
overexcited tightly restricted area…Mom’s workplace. Dev was. We slept there,
wet and dirty because of the muddy water. I didn’t care. All I cared about was
having a good place to stay, and having no worries about what lied ahead. My
second blackout was my restlessness, which was soon eased anyway.
My THIRD Blackout:
…was eased a few days ago. Finally arriving home last
Wednesday, Dev and I saw what Max meant when he told us that we “couldn’t make
it home”. Muddy water was covering the area, and it almost consumed the first
floor of our home. Mom came home with us, and she was equally shocked to see
what the monsoon has been bringing. The frustrating part (for me, because
nobody else seemed frustrated) was that the calamity isn’t even a storm. It was
only a monsoon, and yet it caused us so much trouble. The worst part was there
was no electricity.
That was even more frustrating for me and Dev, ‘cause
neither of us could blog. Plus, our homework has piled up. Good thing classes
have been cancelled since Tuesday. Last Thursday night, the electricity went
back, but the internet connection has not yet returned to normal. In fact, I
had to edit this post about three times, simply because I couldn’t post it.
Anyway, I should be complying with my demandingly shuffled schedule. I’ll do my
best to do things even without a secure internet connection. So, see you next
time folks. J
P.S. to those who may be wondering, Dev, Jen, Cat pig, Max
and I are all fine. The monsoon seems to have faded, and I know that from now
on, I won’t be blacking out as easily. We survived again! J
