As we were enjoying the place, I realized something. It’s
kind of a rare, enlightening moment, when I realized that people NEVER AGE…
that we are forever young.
Looking at the massive slides of Splash Island made me stop
and think: If I turned everything smaller, the slides, the park, and all the
adults in it, what would I get? A children’s playground. A park full of people
playing in the rain. Surprisingly, nothing seems to have changed. Adults may
have bigger bodies and more facial hair, but they’re all just kids at heart.
We never actually escape childhood. We are bound to it like
how branches are stuck to the roots. We may leave it behind, but we are
actually keeping a part of it with us. We may be huge trees now, but we’re
still the same old seed we were before.
During childhood, boys play with toy cars and girls play
with dolls. Growing old, the men still play with their slightly bigger and more
realistic cars, while the women try to be as perfect as their little role models.
We still play with our toys. We just conceal them in more socially-acceptable
hiding places-or simply disguise them.
Women still play dress-up. They do it in shopping malls and
inside their own closets. Men still fight each other, only this time they use
real guns. Time gets rid of the make-believe portions and turns them into
realistic scenarios. How could we escape our childhood when we used it as our
training ground for adulthood?
We still love candy. We just turned them into desserts like
cakes, and sundaes and salads. We turned them into drugs, cigarettes, alcohol
and coffee. We may have begged our
parents for candy when we were young, but now that we have the money, who’s
stopping us? We can now have anything we want. Candy is only bad for your
teeth. All the other things ruin lives, separate families and kill people.
Kids know so little.
But sometimes it’s amazing how they can do so much better than us. Perhaps it’s
their innocence. They’re too innocent to take advantage of anything or anyone.
Also, they don’t pretend to be anything other than themselves.
Kids are little angels. Adults are a bit more sinful than
that. But like I said, we are all bound to our childhood. It isn’t too late to
change. Instead of concealing your childish heart, why not learn to love it?
Love yourself. After all, we can never outgrow ourselves. Face it, we’re
forever young, forever innocent, and forever little angels.
