Sometimes I find it hard to sleep. Like recently, ‘cause the
stench in Dev’s room (refer to Dev’s article “Rat’s Hole!”) has somehow found
its way into mine. The smell is sickening, and I can see why Dev has been a bit
cranky lately.
Anyway, back to my topic. I’m not an insomniac, but it’s
like that sometimes. I find it hard to sleep for several reasons. That is why
I’m listing down ten tips on how to sleep easily at night.
1.
Don’t do anything else on your bed, other than
sleep. It’s easier to sleep if you remember not to bring your work to bed. The
bed is your sleeping spot, not your workstation. Program your body so that you
can use the bed more efficiently.
2.
Clean your bed. You know you must. Sometimes
it’s just a tiring thing to do, I know. But a clean bed provides better sleep.
You don’t wanna sleep on a pile of dust and bugs, do you? Well, your bed tends
to gather those, so clean it up.
3.
Ignore the clock. I know it’s advisable to keep
a sleeping routine, but sometimes we stick too much to it. We stress out when
this routing isn’t followed, and this jus prevents us from resting. So when
it’s time for bed, ignore the clock, shut out the world and relax. And don’t
count the hours you’ve spent sleeping. Just do it.
4.
Watch a comedy movie. This helps, actually. In
fact, watch anything that would make you smile. Horror films are a bad idea.
You might not even be able to sleep if you watch horror! Keep things positive,
and you’ll be sleeping in no time.
5.
The lights…don’t really matter. You could sleep
with them either turned on or off. Choose whatever suits you. Most people
prefer to sleep in the dark though.
6.
Don’t exercise before sleeping. Contrary to the
belief that this will tire you out, this will only pump up your body for more
work. In other words, it’s a bad idea.
7.
Turn the TV on. This is weird, but it gives you
the comfort of hearing random people talking. Sometimes it’s just creepy to
sleep in total silence, so might as well turn the volume up.
8.
Stop thinking. Leave your activities behind- at
least leave them for tomorrow. It’s hard to do, but it’s what keeps you awake.
Just stop worrying about your life and start facing your dreams. Dreams are
good to watch, you know.
9.
Keep your conscience clear. This goes with “stop
thinking”. The clearer your conscience, the less you have to worry about,
right? Turn your inner voice into the voice that lulls you to sleep.
10.
Pray. Talk to Him. Thank Him for all that you
have, and say sorry for everything you’ve done wrong. Trust me, He will give
you not only lighter sleep, but a worry-free life.
That’s it, readers: My ten tips on how to sleep better at
night. Dev wanted to add another one, so here it is…
11.
FACE IT, YOU’RE NOT GONNA SLEEP AT ALL. The
depressing thought is bound to get you all drowsy.
Sleep well, readers. (Good morning to the others.) J
